While there are many approaches to painting abstract art, Jodi Ohl’s philosophy is to simply start. In this book, the successful, self-taught artist helps you “dive in with an open mind and fearless heart.” Everything inside is geared toward kick-starting your creativity:
• An exciting series of 22 fun-to-follow, step-by-step projects.
• A tantalizing variety of approaches and inspirations for applying and manipulating paint, crayons, pencils, ink, paper, photos and more.
• Quick and loose exercises for building a library of ideas, color palettes, patterns and designs to use in future paintings.
• Loads of practical advice, including how to stock your studio without going broke, the five must-haves mediums, and how to finish and protect your artwork.
For beginners eager to get to the “good stuff” and for artists looking to expand their repertoire, it just doesn’t get any better.

This is one of the best books I have invested in till date on ART. Jodi is such an awesome teacher. Her words and instructions take the fear out of painting and the exercises get you going with much more confidence than ever. I loved the book and this is ideal for those who are restarting or are first timers. Jodi is a self-taught artist so this book feels like she is voicing and addressing all our fears.

I just wanted some ideas – and this has taken me to a different approach immediately! I’ve always used acrylics but was just starting to try out different techniques/media/styles …. I really couldn’t have bought a better book! I’ve learnt lots about lots of things – not the most technically decorative way of expressing how I feel about this, but I just love it!!

Loved the examples and step by step on how to get there.
This is my language of learning and I’ll be sure to use many of these teachings in my art. Can’t wait to get started. Thank you for the inspiration!

As someone new to painting I enjoyed the book and some of the exercises proved useful, but the massive array of materials that she uses is prohibitive, I simply couldn’t afford to buy everything that she suggests using, meaning that I couldn’t try many of the things she suggests.

I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book since I pre-ordered an age ago. It arrived yesterday and I couldn’t wait to delve in. It is a beautiful book, the pages are fantastic quality, full of vibrant color. I have been following Jodi for quite a few years now and have several of her online courses. I had the good fortune to attend one of her workshops in Florida last year, which was amazing. She is a lovely lady who very generously shares her techniques and unique ideas with everyone. Her playful style is super easy and there are no mistakes….everything is an opportunity. Love this book. Super inspirational. Buy it, you won’t be disappointed!
