I picked up a number of books from my local library on Chinese brush painting and Japanese brush painting in ink to remove the challenges of color in hopes to learn more expressive skills for watercolor. This book had such a great variety and presentation I renewed it so many times I decided to buy it to keep on hand for the information and inspiration it provided. It has nice presentation of a brief history and good explanation and sources for tools and materials you’ll need. Exercises are comprehensive with nice written instructions and illustrated examples for technique practice, followed by exercises to practice specific compositions using the techniques. Inspiring presentation that makes me want to practice so I can make that stroke and picture flow out of me too! Even if I don’t have time to practice, it’s a very satisfying book to look through and just read…
