This inspiring sketchbook is part of the new 20 Ways series from Quarry Books, designed to offer artists, designers, and doodlers a fun and sophisticated collection of illustration fun. Each spread features 20 inspiring illustrated examples of 45 themes–tulips, roses, dahlias, and much, much more–over 900 drawings, with blank space for you to draw your take on 20 Ways to Draw a Tulip. This is not a step-by-step technique book–rather, the stylized flowers, snap dragons, and zinnias, are simplified, modernized, and reduced to the most basic elements, showing you how simple abstract shapes and forms meld to create the building blocks of any item that you want to draw. Each of the 20 interpretations provides a different, interesting approach to drawing a single item, providing loads of inspiration for your own drawing. Presented in the author’s uniquely creative style, this engaging and motivational practice book provides a new take on the world of sketching, doodling, and designing.

I was hoping that this book would give instructions on what to draw first, what to draw second, etc. Perhaps I should have looked inside the book online and I may have known. With this book, you need to be able to copy the drawing in the book.
It isn’t really a complete sketchbook. There is only paper to draw some of the flowers, not all of them.

This series of books ,,,,20 Ways to……are fun and have so many variations of whatever their main subject is,,,,be it flowers or trees, etc. I use it to entertain my niece and we draw all kinds of things from this series. A good buy.

I love doodling and sketching and drawing but sometimes I get stuck…creatively! This book had so many ideas about drawing so many different kinds of flowers. It was truly wonderful! There are more books in this series and I plan to acquire even more for more great doodling ideas!

Cela me permettra d’expérimenter pour trouver mon style.

I have now bought the full set of these books. The quality of the book is amazing. I adore the binding because it allows the book to lie flat. More art books need to use this type of binding. Each book spurs my creativity. The images are simple and serve as a great starting point. I adore these books!

The books in this series are all great. In this one, “20 Ways to Draw a Tulip”, much more than tulips are covered. Sure, there are plenty of tulips – there are drawings upon drawings of tulips – but there are also some other things included. There is a lot of open space in the book – meant to encourage the reader to become more of a participant by doodling the trees in their own imagination, or practicing the doodles throughout the book.
This book is great to keep in my car. It’s easy to whip it out and work on a page – practice my doodling – while I wait for kids at various activities. In addition to this volume, I purchased “20 Ways to Draw a Trees”. That book is very similar to this one, and I would recommend both for artists – or doodlers – of any age.

If you are like me and were tired of drawing daisies, then you’ll love this book. This book will break you out of the daisy dilemma. You’ll start drawing more flowers, even flowers you didn’t know existed. You will marvel that the world had these types of flowers in it and you will marvel even more that you can draw them. I had fun with this book when I first got it and literally didn’t put it down for a week or so. But you can bet I will pull it out whenever I want to draw flowers and plants for my home made cards. Great resource!

I love to use this book to practice and find patterns to add to my watercolor abstracts. Great reference book.

Disclaimer: I’m not an artistic novice. I actually minored in studio art in college but I was looking for something I could pick up easily and work on daily to hone my drawing skills and maybe explore bullet journaling. I purchased both this book after seeing a video tutorial by the artist and I’m so glad I did. My first two drawings aren’t perfect but they are a great jumping off point to build skills from. The directions are easy to follow and the sample drawings are large enough to see details.

Great drawings for inspiration. Use for direct copying or as a starting point for more detailed designs or art journaling. I own several of these books.
